Devon Gilfillian returns to The Independent with a band that slips effortlessly between vintage soul, modern R&B, and guitar-forward funk. He sings with a bright, grainy tenor and writes songs built for movement, stitching joy and protest into grooves that feel both classic and current. Live, the set tends to expand, with breakdowns, call-and-response, and a patient pocket that keeps the room in step.
